چکیده
Abstract. Accurate estimation of the melting level (ML) is essential in radar rainfall to mitigate bright band enhancement, classify hydrometeors, correct for rain attenuation and calibrate measurements. This paper presents a novel robust ML-detection algorithm based on either vertical profiles (VPs) or quasi-vertical (QVPs) built from operational polarimetric weather scans. The depends only data collected by itself, it combination several measurements generate an enhanced profile with strong gradients related layer. applied 1 year events that occurred over southeast England, results were validated using radiosonde data. After evaluating all possible combinations measurements, achieves best ML detection when combining VPs ZH, ?HV gradient velocity (gradV), whereas, QVPs, ZDR produces results, regardless type event. root mean square error compared ?200 m ?250 QVPs.

Hail Detection with Polarimetric Radar
Dual-polarization radars typically transmit horizontally and vertically polarized waves and receive polarized backscattered signals. Because illuminated hydrometeors are not spherical, their radar backscatter cross sections are not the same for the two polarizations. Hydrometeor size, shape, orientation, and thermodynamic phase can be inferred from returned signals. Polarimetric hail algorithms...
متن کاملPrinciples and Applications of Dual-Polarization Weather Radar. Part I: Description of the Polarimetric Radar Variables
The United States Weather Surveillance Radar-1988 Doppler (WSR-88D) radar network has been upgraded to dual-polarization capabilities, providing operational and research meteorologists with a wealth of new information regarding the types and distributions of hydrometeors within precipitating storms, as well as a means for improved radar data quality. In addition to the conventional moments of r...

study on polsar target detection essentially requires the cattering information and polarimetric statistical data. theoretical analysis shows that some terms of the second order scattering matrices such as coherence and covariance matrix clearly show the differences between nonsymmetrical man-made objects and natural clatters which being reflection symmetric. using the model derived from these ...
متن کاملClassification of polarimetric radar images based on SVM and BGSA
Classification of land cover is one of the most important applications of radar polarimetry images. The purpose of image classification is to classify image pixels into different classes based on vector properties of the extractor. Radar imaging systems provide useful information about ground cover by using a wide range of electromagnetic waves to image the Earthchr('39')s surface. The purpose ...
متن کاملPassive Polarimetric Multistatic Radar Detection of Moving Targets
We study the exploitation of polarimetric diversity in passive multistatic radar for detecting moving targets. We first derive a data model that takes into account polarization and anisotropy of targets inherent in multistatic configurations. Unlike conventional isotropic models in which targets are modeled as a collection of uniform spheres, we model targets as a collection of dipole antennas ...
